Aesthetic of Art and Crafts

Exhibition period September 14 – December 17, 2024

Official Opening on September 14, 2024; 2pm

ATTA Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening of “Aesthetic of Art and Crafts”, the eighth exhibition in Self Enquiry project by Kamin Lertchaiprasert, in collaboration with ATTA Gallery. The exhibition is held at 31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit (office) in Chiangmai.

This exhibition showcases Kamin’s latest ceramic sculpture, “Happiness is Precious When Shared,” created in 2024 in collaboration with Tao Hong Tai, along with two artworks from the “Pure Perception?” series (2019-2020). Kamin’s pieces are exhibited alongside works by Mr. Saksaran Duang-in (Bank), founder of Satu, a clothing company that goes beyond physical beauty to embody ethnic lifestyles and production practices; Mr. Montree Yuansat, whose meticulous craftsmanship transforms homes into sculptural works that transcend time; and Suan Chujai’s roasted coffee, offered at Jingjai Market, where customers are invited to pay as they wish, creating a space for meaningful connections that challenge conventional business models. These diverse works prompt viewers to reflect on the distinctions between Craft and Art, and to question: When the value of contemporary art is not just skills and craftsmanship, then what is beauty, if not attention?

The official opening of the exhibition will be held in the form of a conversation in Thai titled “Aesthetic of Art and Crafts” on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2 p.m. with Somchai Songwatana (Founder of the Flynow brand), Udom Udomsrianun (Artist and designer of furniture brand Planet 2001), Vipash Purichanont (Independent curator and art historian), Karueporn Satrabhaya (Founder of the Graph Coffee Co.). The conversation will be moderated by Kamin Lertchaiprasert and Atinuj Tantivit (Founder of ATTA Gallery). Following the talk, at 5pm, there will be a fashion show by Mr. Saksaran Duang-In of Satu to mark the end of the opening.

The exhibition runs from September 14 – December 17, 2024 at 31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit (office), 100/6 Moo 10 Soi Wat-Umong, Suthep Road, Amphoe Muang, Chiangmai 50200. (Office hours: Saturday-Tuesday, 1-5 pm)

Aesthetic of Art and Crafts

Attention

Every action is equally important,

Be it big or small.

The value of art and crafts

Is determined not by monetary gains,

But by the sentimental value to the makers,

And the feelings of joy, happiness, and peace of those who receive,

As a result of the attention

Paid to every stage of the making process.

It is a pure intention that manifests itself,

In a form of expression

That is meticulous

And highly creative,

Just like artistic masterpieces.

Without attention,

There is no creativity,

No learning,

No spiritual value.

Where there is attention,

Every action, every activity,

Becomes a source of nourishment

And spiritual value.

It depends not on materialistic value,

No need to buy nor acquire,

But to be seen and appreciated

Like wayside flowers

That share their fragrance and beauty.

One shall treat them with loving kindness,

And no desire to possess.

Art is the process of learning

And understanding life,

Society, and nature.

When the value of contemporary art

Is not just skills and craftsmanship,

Then what is beauty

If not attention.
