Amazon Global Selling Thailand Seller Conference Successfully Held Online

Amazon global selling continues to empower Thai businesses to maximize cross-border e-commerce opportunities in 2022

Average sales of Thai sellers increased by 25% from September 2020 to August 2021

Bangkok, January 21, 2022 – Amazon Global Selling Thailand Seller Conference was successfully held online and attracted over 5,000 Thai SMEs to join. The event was designed to equip Thai businesses with the information, skills and tools needed to capture the opportunities in the burgeoning cross-border e-commerce sector, and elevate their business to a global level while also becoming more resilient to future uncertainties. During the event, Amazon Global Selling also introduced Thai seller’s overall performance: from September 2020 to August 2021, the average sales of Thai SMBs increased by 25%, and Thai sellers that surpassed $1 million in sales grew by approximately 30%.

The Thailand Seller Conference included participation from the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce, industry partners and key stake holders, as well as existing and prospective Thai sellers. During the conference, Amazon Global Selling Thailand shared insights on potential trending opportunities in 2022 and its strategy to provide additional support to help sellers expand their business footprint globally by leveraging Amazon’s stores worldwide. Amazon Global Selling team in Thailand also continues to work very closely with the DITP in helping Thai businesses recover from the current economic downturn caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanavisit, who was the guest of honor at the event said, “Thailand has achieved exponential growth in exports over the last year because the Ministry of Commerce has heavily leveraged and promoted e-commerce. This includes online business matching to targets global buyers, encouragement of last year’s sales worth over twenty billion baht through the ministry-owned platform Thaitrade.com, and promotion of global leading e-commerce services like Amazon. Amazon.com is among the most efficient channels that can help promote Thai exports globally, more specifically to the US which is our largest export destination. Together with Amazon Global Selling, we encourage Thailand companies, particularly SMEs, to seize the e-commerce export opportunity.”

Thai SMEs have great potential to go global

Cross-border ecommerce is estimated to be growing at 2.3 times[1] the rate of total ecommerce in the next 5 years and has become a growing opportunity for sellers in many countries like Thailand – sellers that are looking to expand their business and to reach new customers around the world.

Jamie Brennan, head of Amazon Global Selling in Thailand, said, “Amazon Global Selling Thailand Seller Conference aims to help sellers gear up for the new year. Through this event we want to equip sellers to adapt to the changing business environment, minimize the impact of the pandemic and to showcase high-quality Thai products to global customers. We are delighted to be collaborating closely with various parties to grow Thai sellers and help them go global. And we are looking to provide more support to accelerate brand owners’ long-term success, in collaboration with ministries and industry associations.”

“There’s no better time to utilize Amazon Global Selling as the launch pad to grow your business now, especially on a global scale,” she added.

Continuous effort to support Thai sellers

Today, there are about two million Amazon third-party sellers worldwide and products from sellers account for more than half of everything sold in Amazon stores. Sellers can tap into Amazon global logistics network to enable their business to maximize sales. In 2020, Amazon increased square footage across its fulfilment and logistics network by about 50%, opening dozens of new delivery stations and fulfilment centers around the world.

With opportunities springing up when getting started in cross-border e-commerce come challenges such as language barriers, product capabilities and securing adequate financial capital. Amazon Global Selling also tries to help Thai sellers in addressing these challenges and developing businesses. In 2022, Amazon’s global selling team in Thailand will continue to support local sellers with information on global resources while offering more collaborative support in tandem with government agencies, Chambers of Commerce and other third parties. These include:

•Reduce language barriers with a knowledgeable Global Selling team in Thailand and an improved localized seller central, so Thai sellers will be able to navigate the dashboard, set up product listings, monitor sales and manage inventory all in Thai.

•Help sellers increase product capabilities through innovative tools worldwide to get more insight and to enable sellers to effectively develop, launch, and sell their products on Amazon.

•Enhanced collaboration with third parties – Amazon Global Selling team in Thailand is working with organizations like the DITP to provide more support for entrepreneurial sellers. In addition, Amazon Global Selling Thailand is working with local Thai third parties to build a more robust Service Provider Network to help Thai businesses find the right service providers for areas including legal services, logistics, customs, or marketing.

Today’s conference was a reflection of Amazon Global Selling’s effort and commitment to further help Thai sellers bring ‘Made-in-Thailand’ products and brands to global consumers through Amazon. Amazon Global Selling sees even more opportunity for Thai businesses to expand their cross-border e-commerce journey to multiple Amazon stores including the US, Japan, Australia, Singapore, and EU countries.

Amazon Global Selling is honored to support Thai sellers and believes that Thai SMEs are one of the main driving forces of Thailand’s economy. As a testament to Amazon’s support for its Thai sellers, Amazon announced its first-ever Amazon Global Selling Seller Awards in Thailand during the Amazon Global Selling Thailand Seller Conference. This awards event was created to recognize the effort of Thai businesses and sellers who have contributed to the development of the Thailand selling community on Amazon, encouraging more sellers to start their own cross-border e-commerce journey.
