Richard Koh Fine Art Bangkok is pleased to present “The Omnipresent Spirits”, a solo exhibition by Thai artist Padungsub Prachanan, on view from 14 September to 05 October 2024. This exhibition showcases Padungsub’s evocative paintings, where the mysteries of nature and local beliefs intertwine, offering a profound exploration of the spiritual and the unseen in the rural landscape.
In his artist statement, Padungsub reflects on his inspiration for the series, which originates from the enigmatic quality of landscape painting and the concept of “Khwan”, a traditional belief representing a state of psychological security.
He explains, “I am captivated by the mysterious atmospheres of landscape painting, using it as a bridge between the physical world and the abstract states intertwined with personal experience.”
The paintings in “The Omnipresent Spirits” are deeply influenced by memories and the rural landscapes of Thailand, where the spirit of Khwan seems to “scatter and float through forests, trees, and objects”, as Padungsub describes. His work reveals a world where imagination merges with nature, creating an ambiguous and evocative atmosphere that invites viewers to explore the spaces between the seen and the unseen.
By combining elements of personal experience with the mysticism of local beliefs, Padungsub’s work opens a window into the deeper, hidden realms of nature and the human psyche. His paintings evoke curiosity and reflection, leaving viewers with a sense of wonder about the mysterious forces that shape our world.
