HEAD HIGH Second Floor proudly presents “Home.Help” – a solo exhibition by Baphoboy
Baphoboy struggles with his demons, inner and outer, facing them in his typical artistic way. Unvarnished, open and honest. This young artist knows the dark and knows already what existential crises are.
At the same time, the artist’s works are beautiful to look at, they are predominantly colourful and bubbling over with his wealth of ideas. The whole tragedy only reveals itself on closer inspection of his paintings and sculptures.
This artist is not alone, he speaks for many of his generation. But not only for them. And not only in Thailand.
The home of our childhood and youth can be paradise but also hell on earth and has shaped us all in different ways. Images and voices from this time accompany us throughout our lives and can become nightmares. We look for friends and allies, people who understand us. Sometimes professional help is needed. We all have to learn to keep our demons in check and to live with them, otherwise we are lost.
Thank you Baphoboy for this very personal exhibition and for letting us see so deeply into your thoughts and soul.
Truly there is no wise man
Who does not know the dark
Which quietly and inescapably
Separates him from everything else.
from the poem “In the Fog” by Hermann Hesse
BIOGRAPHY
Baphoboy (born 1995), is an artist from Chon Buri. He graduated from Silpakorn University Bangkok with a Bachelor of Art (Graphics).
After that, he took the internet by storm with his pointed, satirical and enigmatic smiley characters and became famous in a short time. Tens of thousands follow him on Instagram and other social media.
His rapid rise and high profile have led to his selection for Pictoplasma Berlin 2021, the most important international conference and festival for contemporary drawing design.
The content of his works is determined by current political events, but also reflects personal conflicts with unsparing frankness.
In October 2021 he had his first solo show at Head High Second Floor, which was very successful, and since then he has been represented in several group exhibitions in Thailand. Baphoboy is also well known for his intense performances.
His work can be found in prestigious collections, also outside Thailand.
FEAR EATS THE SOUL, the title of a Fassbinder movie seems very apt for his artistic creation and is, consciously or unconsciously, his credo.
