La Lanta Fine Art
Sept 16 – Oct 29, 2023
La Lanta Fine Art is pleased to announce a duo art exhibition by Bathma Kaew-ngok (Thai) and Naomi Daimaru (Japanese) in a multidisciplinary exhibition titled “KUU KA N”
KUU KA N is a Japanese word which literally means “space”. The same word also means “together” in the Thai language. This exhibition explores the idea of how space is crucial to the togetherness of a couple.
KUU KA N exhibition considers the definition of space, “a continuous area or expanse which is free, available, or unoccupied,” as a metaphorical concept for freedom, creation and illusion. Space can be expanded as much as one’s imagination. It transcends both time and dimension.
A Thai ceramic artist trained by a Japanese master, Bathma Kaew-ngok will present a new series of sculptures and potteries that are based on the philosophy of Iga-Yaki – a Japanese style of ceramic art that emphasizes nature in its materials and processes. Embodying the spirit of nature and being one with it, his artwork appears to be rustic with imperfect shapes and subtle earthy colors. It pays tribute to nature with minimal manipulation by man.
Naomi Daimaru is a renowned floral artist with over 30 years’ experience in Japan, the US and Thailand. Using floral art as her language, Naomi will present multidisciplinary work including printmaking, drawing, painting and floral art installation based on the philosophy of Ikebana. Her artwork emphasizes an adherence to nature and human expression.
KUU KA N exhibition will be on display at La Lanta Fine Art from September 16 to October 29, 2023. On the last day of the exhibition, both artists will perform the ritual of “Himogake” or “packing ceremony.” The artworks that are sold during the exhibition will be packed in the ceremony witnessed by their new owners before the transferring of ownership.
As part of KUU KA N exhibition, there will be a series of cultural events that enhance the participation of gallery viewers as follows:
