WERDIN
Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch
La Lanta Fine Art
June 14 – August 9, 2025
La Lanta Fine Art proudly presents WERDIN, a solo exhibition by Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch. WERDIN takes viewers on a journey through “din” (Thai for “earth” or “clay”), not merely as a raw material for ceramics, but as a symbol of the process of becoming. The title plays with the German word Werden, meaning “to be,” “to become,” or “to come into being,” and merges it with the English phrase “we are” and the Thai word “din”. The result, “We are din” or “WERDIN”, suggests the fusion of human identity with earth as material, as body, and as cultural consciousness.
Although clay is his primary medium, Wasinburee also turns to materials such as metal, recognizing that clay alone cannot always convey the full emotional and conceptual range he seeks. These materials are not just media for making art or craft; they are a language of transformation.
Wasinburee expands upon the idea of “becoming” through the artistic process deeply entangled with material and through questioning recorded history. Through hands-on processes, material selection, experimentation, and installation, Wasinburee reconsiders and reinterprets notions of civilization through thought, emotion, memory, and identity.
WERDIN, then, is not merely an art exhibition. It is a conversation between humans and materials such as clay, metal, other materials, and technologies that give rise to processes that are always in a state of “becoming”.
The works on display may one day serve as records of a new kind of history and as mirrors reflecting the actions of humankind still in progress. Here, the artist is not only a maker of things, but a questioner, inviting us to look back at our lives in the ways we choose to understand them.
About the Artist
Born in 1971, Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch is a leading Thai artist who lives and works in Ratchaburi, Thailand, and is the owner of Tao Hong Tai Ceramic Factory. He has made his name through ceramic art but is also known for his photography, sculpture, installations and public art. He earned a Master’s Degree in Fine Art (Ceramic Major) at Universitaet Gesamthochschule Kassel, Germany. Supanichvoraparch believes in the accessibility and sustainability of art. He is the founder of an art center, dKunst, and Art Normal, Ratchaburi’s first public art event. His work has inspired him to create numerous community art projects and social activities.
The attribution of uncontrollable aspects has always been at the core of Wasinburee Supanichvoraparch’s art practice and philosophy. His works, through a wide range of media, act as a reflection of the transience and uncertainty of life. This is not surprising, given that ceramics are his prime medium, a medium where every slight variable can affect the outcome. Sometimes, Supanichvoraparch’s works even try to challenge our perception. The periphery between reality and the surreal is presented through a subtle sense of humor and irony. This results in a fascinating beauty created from layers of reality, with all factors, controllable and uncontrollable, combined.
Supanichvoraparch has exhibited in leading galleries and museums worldwide including Museum der Stadt Kassel (Germany), Yingge Ceramics Museum (Taiwan), Singapore Art Museum, Gallery of Contemporary Ceramic Art (Germany), Galerie Marianne Heller (Germany), Michael Woerner Gallery, The Architect’s House (Belgium), Birmingham City University (UK), NEMO Bluesquare (South Korea), Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, National Gallery (Thailand) and MOCA BANGKOK. He has participated in international art events including the Gyeonggi Ceramics Biennale (2024), the 2nd Bangkok Art Biennale (2020), the 3rd Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale (2014), and the 55th Venice Biennale (2013). He has also received the Wattanakunathorn Award in 2013 and Silpathorn Award Winner for Design Section in 2010 from the Ministry of Culture, and Thailand Designer Award in 2007 from Silpakorn University. His important art pieces are among private and public collections presented at Hessische Landesmuseum Kassel (Germany), Haus der Jugend, Willi-Seidel-Haus, Kassel (Germany), Thailand Ministry of Culture (Thailand), Ratchaburi National Museum (Thailand), Khao Yai Art Museum (Thailand), 129 Art Museum (Thailand), Bangkok Sculpture Center (Thailand), Bangkok Art Biennale Foundation (Thailand), Shizen
