Young Program 2022
By Auscharaporn Klamkluan and Patcharisa Suwannarat
La Lanta Fine Art
August 6 – September 17, 2022
La Lanta Fine Art is pleased to introduce two new faces in Thai contemporary art in the gallery’s Young Program 2022. The Young Program aims to discover and provide a platform for new talents to showcase their ideas and art practices to a wider audience. This year’s program features artwork by two young female artists; each of whom distinguishes herself with unorthodox art medium.
Auscharaporn Klamkluan (b. 1991) is formally trained in traditional Thai art. She presents the technique of gold applique on lacquer (Long Rak Pid Thong) with simplified visual cues and a contemporary twist. Traditionally, this elaborate technique is seen on paintings and wooden doors in Thai temples in black lacquer highlighted by gold leaf. In her artwork, Auscharaporn identifies the intrinsic colors of the base material and accentuates such color to pair with the gold applique. The decorative images stay true to the Thai motif but with contemporary compositions.
Patcharisa Suvanrat (b. 1991) is specialized in sewing. She deploys various skills in needlecraft to create handmade textural artwork using fabric as base material. Her techniques include stitching, embellishing, trimming as well as French technique in creating Haute Couture’s impeccable wardrobe. Her subject matter discusses the symbolic meaning that the Eastern culture bestows on particular objects that are believed to bring fortune, good health, and prosperity.
“Young Program 2022” exhibition will be on display at La Lanta Fine Art from today until September 17, 2022. The exhibition can be on viewed at www.lalanta.com
