“Love and Fire” is a solo exhibition by Tanapol Kaewpring, an artist, director and photographer that captures the standstill of violence and fury during the ingestion changes from the so-called ‘Fire’ in

the name of love, to bring us back to consider the possibility of common sense being possessed under the midst of a confusing political and social situation.

Meanwhile, Love and Fire echoes Joan Crawford’s quote, “Love is a fire. But whether it is going

to warm your heart or burn down your house, you can never tell.” The state of love and fire is

a question that confuses and reverses its inner meaning. It invites enchantment, gives light, and is

the originator of almost everything. But it’s hot and ready to burn everything down if someone

or something gets too close.

In addition to changes in appearance, “Love and Fire” also have the power to take over and transform the subconscious like a good or bad ghost that is ready to imprint. Which may make us unconsciously sensitive or furious without a glance.

It’s ready to make us feel overwhelmed with something. To protect an ideology, an institution,

or even an individual, and aim to harm and destroy an ideology, an institution, or even

an individual when our conscience is so blurry that we forget or fail to see what the basis of

the opposing body is, a man who breathes.

Tanapol’s photographic and installation artworks aim to take the audience on a momentary exploration of various shaped objects being held and embraced by fire. Through the stagnant state of the time engraved in the nature of the camera recording, which gripped the violence during those changes.

In the end, “Love and Fire” might be likened to the heavy lightness of Milan Kundera, which human beings choose to recruit to embrace, and are often possessed both knowingly and unknowingly. No one can say that the condition after ingestion, that change will bring warmth to the heart, or burn the body of the soul.

About Artist

Tanapol Kaewpring (Thai, b. 1980) is an artist, filmmaker, photo editor and freelance photographer who worked with many established magazines such as Rubber and Wallpaper magazine. His work combines an acute sense of composition, depth and perspective with thoughtful observations of the human condition through dream-like settings. His installation photography tends to use artificial and natural substances in action, colliding to release whatever feeling they are meant to evoke. Being a Thai

anti-establishment supporter, his message is often more political than one would expect at first glance. Tanapol’s work as an artist has been showcased at galleries and art fairs in Thailand and in Asia-Pacific such as the ASEAN-Korea Contemporary Photo Exhibition, Bangkok’s Month of Photography,

the Bangkok Design Week and the Hotel Art Fair.
