Nissan supports Thai Premier League restart with Muangthong United F.C. partnership

The collaboration provides Terra SUVs and Urvan vehicles to support restart of the 2020 Thai Premier League season

BANGKOK, Thailand (August 25, 2020) – Nissan has strengthened its partnership with Muangthong United F.C. (MTUTD), and will provide Nissan Terra SUVs and Urvan vehicles to the football side to show the company’s support for the restart of the 2020 Thai Premier League season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the season was suspended in March for player and fan safety. It is now scheduled to resume in September and end in May 2021, so to ensure safety of the footballers, trainers and club staff Nissan has donated seven Nissan Terra and two Nissan Urvans for safe and socially distance transport for the whole season.

“Nissan’s cars and technology are created to move people to a better world – and this is more important than ever. We fully support the Thai premier league season to start safely, and are proud to ensure Muangthong United F.C. players and staff travel safely,” said Ramesh Narasimhan, president of Nissan in Thailand. “Nissan’s sponsorship of the exciting 2020 league restart is inspired by our technology that moves humanity to ‘go beyond’ and we believe that these players will.”

“We are pleased to receive additional support from Nissan and its vehicles, as it helps the MTUTD team maintain a high level of professional sport expertise at every exciting match that it plays,” said Wiluck Lohtong, MTUTD F.C.’s Chairman. “It is a great endorsement of our partnership that we are extending this relationship as we will continue to work closely together. Nissan is a world-class brand and has set an incredibly high standard in sports marketing. Just as Nissan stands for ‘Innovation that Excites’, which runs through our partnership, we are excited to see what we can create next together”

On a global level, Nissan is an official partner with the UEFA Champions League for the 2018 to 2021 seasons, in addition to being a global partner of Manchester City since 2014. Nissan also founded the J-League side, Yokohama F.Marinos, that captured the championship title in 2019.

“The passion found in football, in Thailand and around the world, is indicative of the passion Nissan brings to our vehicles. For Nissan football fans, there will also be additional football related activities arranged with Nissan dealers so our customers can enjoy added benefits from this partnership that we will communicate through both online and off-line channels,” said Adisai Sirisinha, Nissan’s vice president for marketing in Thailand.

For the restart of the 2020 season, MTUTD F.C.’s footballers will travel in Nissan Terras, premium SUVs that combine best-in-class engine performance with spacious comfort and advanced driving technology, allowing them the freedom to take on any journey with confidence.
