St. George’s University in Grenada committed to helping
Thai medical students succeed through international medical education
Kick start with a one-day agent workshop as one of a series of planned educational activities for 2022
16 March, 2022, Thailand – St. George’s University (SGU) in Grenada is back in Thailand to continue to help future medical students succeed through international medical education. A series of activities have been planned throughout 2022 allowing medical aspirants access to information that would help them shape their path to a medical career. To name but a few, shadowing a specialist doctor, i.e., in emergency medicine, to understand what their daily work entails; doctor panels available to answer any doubts and questions future students, and their parents, might have; a taster lecture for future students to feel if medicine is for them.
As a kick start for the year, SGU recently hosted an in-person one-day workshop for agents to prepare for the betterment of student consultation to future medical students in Thailand. Education agents play an important role in international student recruitment for overseas institutions. It was even so the case during the pandemic while educators were restricted to travel.
The health and the well-being of participants and staff were of paramount importance to the university. Hence, as a precaution measure, all participants have had a COVID test performed on them by a registered nurse before entering the venue.
A delegation of 20 Thai agents attended the workshop hosted, in a hybrid mode, by Recruitment Manager Nalinee Jiemvithayanukul on-site, and David Anthonisz, Director for International Recruitment joining through an online portal. “Thailand is one of our growing recruitment markets in Asia, that is the reason why we have placed a Thai-speaking local staff here to promote our university, and provide all the support our agents require. I am grateful to have brought our agents back together again after a long while and spent a fruitful day with us.”
In the workshop, David and Nalinee provided updates on the status of the SGU campus in Grenada, and measures implemented in welcoming future students onto the campus in the new term, alongside reminder on SGU’s offerings of a 4-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree program available for university graduates and its 5-, 6-, and 7-year pathways to the program for high school graduates. To bring in added value to the participants, SGU invited a special guest speaker, a digital marketing expert, to talk about today’s digital marketing strategies, and how to effectively use Facebook tools to bring better results in advertising. Participants found the session informative and tips practical in their daily work. Alisa Yadathanaphong, Manager from Education for Life, commented: “The session was genuinely beneficial and adaptable to our marketing plan. I believe we are now geared towards the right direction in promoting SGU moving forward.”
Sasinath Praekulvanich, Education Counseling Manager of Learning Curve, one of the participating agents: “We are delighted to be working with SGU, specifically for the quality of the education is exceptional. SGU staff are professional and quick to respond to questions. They are friendly, supportive and resourceful. Working with SGU is a true pleasure.”
“After the workshop, the agents were expected to counsel medical aspirants and their parents with updated knowledge they learned. This is only one of the many activities we have planned for in Thailand. More educational and informative activities are underway through which medical aspirants can learn and engage.” David added.
