Thai furniture designers to auction one-of-a-kind chairs to benefit local charities

Bangkok, Thursday, 13 May 2021

“Chairing is caring” for an inventive group of Thai furniture designers and makers, who have announced a strictly limited auction event of one-of-a-kind chairs, with all proceeds to go to local charities. The auction will run from Saturday 15 May until Monday 17 May at this Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195449702422094/buy_sell_discussion

Looking for a way to assist those in need during the pandemic, each of these local artists and craftspeople have chosen unique pieces for this auction, many from their own personal collections, and have earmarked all proceeds to go to their charity of choice.

The event is organized by Bangkok designer/entrepreneur Saran Yen Panya, who will be donating chairs from his personal collection for the auction. Saran Yen explains that one of his selected chairs, titled “King Chair,” is inspired by a “cheap street plastic stool” but instead is made of striking rainbow galvanized metal. He will also have a number of other chairs on offer.

All money raised from Saran Yen’s chairs will go to the Mercy Centre, located in Klong Toey, Bangkok. This charitable foundation is dedicated to assisting orphans, street children, and children living with AIDS.

The Facebook site for the ChaiR-Rity auction is viewable now, and the bidding link will be released on 15 May at 10:00 Bangkok time. There, you can learn about all the designers and craftspeople involved in this event, and see the variety of unique chairs up for bidding as well as the charities that will benefit from this event.
