Bangkok, Thailand, 7 July 2020, Continental Tires in Thailand, represented by Mr. Edwin Goudswaard, Head of Global Manufacturing and Offtake, 2 Wheels Tires, and Mrs. Naiyana Tipsawad, Head of HR Location, together with Mrs. Orathai Yothinrungruang Sudsanguan, Director, Thai-Austrian Technical College, and Mr. Sombut Inyin, Head of Mechatronic Department,  signed the  Memorandum Of Understanding to support the Dual Vocational Training program, also known as “Sattahip Model”, which focuses on enabling technical students to engage with real-life manufacturing experiences.

Students who participate in this program will be trained rigorously to strengthen their advanced technical skills by experts during the course of 2 years: the first year at the college and the second year with technical experts at Continental Motorcycle Tires Plant in Rayong province.

Throughout the program Continental will support 10 students with 2.8 Million THB, which includes student fees, health insurance, dormitory, transportation and a monthly allowance. Upon their completion, a Certificate of Completion from Continental and High Vocational Certificate from Thai-Austrian Technical College will be given to recognize their capabilities and skills.

“With the mixture of the renowned technical educational program from TATC and the Heritage of German Technology that Continental has been developing for almost 150 years, we give the students the chance to test and strengthen their skills in a real-life global organization, allowing them to gain their first working experiences already while studying.

We’re proud to be part of developing standard skills for Thai students and provide them the knowhow to work with high-tech machines and equipment. We’re excited to introduce them to our new Motorcycle Tires Plant as we have made a lot of progress on construction and machine installation, and we expect to begin our operation by early next year”, mentioned Mr. Goudswaard.

Continental has been continuously supporting the development of technical experts in Thailand. In 2017 the Company signed MOU with Rayong Technical College and Chulalongkorn University under the Work-integrated Learning (WiL) program, which aims to develop skills for students from both vocational college and master’s degree level though the 2-year training and learning experiences at its Passenger and Light Truck Tire plant in Rayong. To date, there are already 2 batches of students (40 people) who participated in this program, and 20 of them have just graduated in April 2020.

“We will bring experiences from the WiL program to enhance the performance of our participants from Dual Vocational Training program. We’re setting a focus on their learning experiences. In the future after completing the program the students will be qualified with the right skills sets to also start their career with Continental in Thailand”, added Mrs. Tipsawad.
